Belmiro Sebastião Marques Avenue receives speed bumps and lanes

Works must be delivered at the end of June

Recently, the City of Paranaguá installed speed bumps and posted speed signs on Belmiro Sebastião Marques Avenue. The improvements were celebrated by residents of neighborhoods along the road, as drivers have been speeding and making it difficult for pedestrians to cross the road since the new asphalt was installed.

The general coordinator of the Program Management Unit (UGP), José Maranhão Neto, emphasized that eight speed bumps have already been installed. “We should have eight to twelve speed bumps along the entire length of the road, which is over four kilometers long. We have installed 18 informational lanes and only one is missing, with information about traffic to guide pedestrians, cyclists and drivers,” he explained.

The works were scheduled to be completed next month, but due to the rain, delivery is expected to take place at the end of June. The sidewalks still need to be finished. “We haven’t paid for this yet; the company hasn’t received any payment for the sidewalk they are building,” said José Maranhão.

The sidewalk model implemented on the road, which also includes the bike path and tactile paving for the visually impaired, has been the subject of complaints from residents. This has occurred because there are trees and posts in some sections, which end up obstructing the path. “There are specific problems, such as points where there are fire hydrants and the tactile paving that was not installed in accordance with the project. The engineers are monitoring the work and have already requested corrections from the company. However, this will be the only avenue in Paranaguá that has tactile paving and new sidewalks along its entire length,” the coordinator highlighted.

NEW LIGHTING

As was recently implemented on Avenida Bento Munhoz da Rocha Neto, Belmiro Sebastião Marques will also have LED lighting, as will the roads that provide access to the avenue. In total, there will be 16 km of lighting that the population will benefit from, including the neighborhoods of Vila Garcia, Comerciários, Parque Agari, Vila Guarani, São Vicente, Jardim Paranaguá, Jardim Esperança, Vila do Sol, Divineia and Vila do Povo.

The new bus stops, painting and vertical signage are the last steps of the project. “The company is focused on finishing the asphalt part, with about 800 meters remaining. After that, they will start finishing the sidewalk details,” said José Maranhão.

WORK DETAILS

According to information from the City of Paranaguá, the work will connect PR-407 to the beginning of Parque São João and, with this, will benefit an estimated population of 40 thousand people, since the work covers neighborhoods such as Vila Divineia, Jardim Yamaguchi, Vila dos Comerciários, Jardim Jacarandá, Porto Seguro and Jardim Ouro Fino.

The project includes asphalt paving, drainage, accessible sidewalks with lowered curbs and a cycle path along the entire length. The investment is over R$7 million with resources from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
