Military police officers from Antonina were called around 15 pm on September 29, by a supermarket employee reporting that an individual tried to “pass” a counterfeit note in the establishment located in the Itapema de Baixo neighborhood.
At the scene, the police team learned that a 31-year-old man, known to be a drug user, tried to pay for goods with a fake R$50 bill and left when the transaction was denied. The police were also informed that the perpetrator claimed to have gone to the house of a woman known to the police for having been arrested for drug trafficking, bought drugs and paid with a R$100 bill, receiving the alleged fake bill as change.
The police went to the suspect's house, who confirmed the story, stating that he had bought five rocks of crack cocaine and received the counterfeit note in return. The individual accompanied the police officers to the 7th Regional Police Station in Antonina for clarification, and the counterfeit note was seized and sent to the Federal Police.
Supermarket workers said that the previous day, the 28th, they also noticed a fake R$50 note, and when they asked the person carrying the note, who was not the same person, he fled leaving the bill behind. However, a 32-year-old man known for involvement in drug trafficking tried to retrieve the note, but was denied.
The Military Police warns merchants in the region to be vigilant and to instruct their employees regarding the receipt of cash payments in their establishments, and in any suspicious situation, to immediately call a patrol by calling 190.
