On Thursday, the 6th, teams from the Civil Police of Paranaguá arrested Geovane Godoi Bahia, 29 years old. He killed his wife, Izabel Cristina da Silva Cardoso, 26 years old, inside a house, on Rua Ayro Carvalho Cruz, in Vale do Sol, on the afternoon of Sunday, the 2nd.
Civil Police Chief Nilson Diniz released some details about this case of femicide in Paranaguá. “The Civil Police began investigations from the beginning of the incident, and already saw evidence that pointed to her partner, the suspect in the crime. In fact, a witness at the scene had already provided information that corroborated this theory, and the police worked along these lines. Soon after, the suspect’s father was questioned, and the suspect himself appeared with his lawyer. It is worth noting that he appeared under the federal law that prevents an arrest warrant from being served up to 48 hours after the elections, so he could not be arrested at the time he appeared at the police station. At the same time, he had already filed a request for preventive detention, which was issued by the 2nd Criminal Court of the municipality of Paranaguá. His lawyer himself presented him so that the arrest warrant could be served, and that was how it was done,” he explained. “He will remain at the disposal of the 2nd Criminal Court to face this case. The Civil Police are now working to conclude the police investigation within 10 days,” he highlighted.

Initial investigations indicate that the victim was violently attacked by her partner and did not survive the serious injuries. “That was the first impression. We need to wait for the autopsy report, which will be sent by the IML to the 1st Subdivision so that the cause of death can be determined. However, from what the evidence suggests, death was indeed caused by the attacks she suffered and attributed to her partner. However, we need the forensic medical document to be sent to the 1st Police Subdivision,” said the police chief.
Izabel Cristina da Silva Cardoso, 26, was violently attacked by her husband inside the house where she lived, in the Vale do Sol neighborhood, in Paranaguá, and did not survive the serious injuries. The body was found by the couple's relatives, early in the afternoon of Sunday, 2.
“In his (Geovane’s) first hearing, he exercised his right to remain silent and said nothing about the incident, but today he requested to be heard to give his version of events and today he mentioned what had already been said by the witness, he said that there was an argument between them, he ended up disarming the victim who was in possession of a knife and inflicted the attacks that caused his death, but we still need to know what the cause of death was to see if the cause of death indicated by the forensic doctor is compatible with the report”, described the Civil Police delegate.

The perpetrator of the femicide, Geovane Godoi Bahia, 29, told his father that the night before, he had argued with his wife and violently assaulted her. The man went to the residence and, after verifying the fact, called his lawyer and the Military Police. The team isolated the property until the arrival of the Forensic Science and the IML – Legal Medical Institute.
After being examined, Izabel Cristina's body was sent to the IML headquarters, where it underwent additional tests and was released by family members for a wake and burial.
The investigations are ongoing and Geovane Godoi Bahia will remain in prison in the Paranaguá public jail. “He will be sent to the Paranaguá Public Jail where he will remain at the disposal of the 2nd Criminal Court,” explained the delegate.
