This week, the ports of Paraná recorded a record movement of fertilizer on a single ship at the public dock. The Persistence Diva docked on Monday, the 1st, at the Port of Paranaguá and is expected to unload 70.760 tons of ammonium sulfate. The last record movement of fertilizer at the public dock took place on April 21 of this year. The ship CSSC BRIGHT unloaded 64.199 tons.
According to the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina are the main entry points for fertilizers into the country, accounting for 27% of all fertilizers that arrive in Brazil. “Among the advantages we offer is the efficient provision of services, the availability for dialogue and one of the largest industrial and storage parks in Brazil,” he says.
Currently, the static storage capacity exceeds 3 million tons of fertilizers. At the Port of Paranaguá, the product can be unloaded at three berths that are preferentially located on the public (commercial) pier or at any other free berth. In addition, there are two berths that serve the sector at the private pier (Fospar) and two other berths in Antonina.
According to the Director of Operations at Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira, the movement of fertilizers in Paraná ports increased in the last two months of this year, and also compared to the same period in 2022. In September of this year, the volume totaled 1.038.445 tons, which represents a growth of 84,5% compared to the same period last year (562,7 thousand).
“At the beginning of the year there was a drop in the movement of fertilizers, which was resumed in the last two months and is achieving great results. The expectation is for new records in the movement of this segment”, he highlights.
According to Portos do Paraná, from January to September 2023, 7.057 million tons of fertilizer were moved.
