On Wednesday the 13th, Portos do Paraná issued a report indicating an 11% growth in cargo handling in April compared to the same month in 2025, according to data from a report prepared by the statistics team of the Port Operations Directorate. According to the public company, the data shows that last month was the best April in the history of Paraná's ports.
According to Portos do Paraná, regarding the number of exports, there was a growth of 16,06% compared to the same month of the previous year. “Shipments of soybeans increased by 43%, vegetable oils by 35%, and petroleum derivatives by 33%. In the accumulated period between January and April, soybeans continue to rise, with a growth of 19%. Vegetable oils advanced 33%, followed by containerized cargo exports, with an increase of 9%, and petroleum derivatives, with a 2% increase compared to the first four months of 2025,” it reports.
"Exports of frozen chicken meat grew 10,5% compared to April 2025. In the accumulated year, shipments made in Paranaguá represent 47,5% of all Brazilian exports of the product. This corresponds to more than 834 tons sent to other countries," highlights the public company.
Regarding animal proteins, growth last month was 8,7%, with more than 1,1 million tons shipped, "mainly to China, South Africa, Japan and the United Arab Emirates," he adds. "This volume represents 38% of all animal protein exports made by Brazil in the first four months of 2026," he points out.
Cargo diversification and handling
“In April, imports grew 2,7% compared to the same month in 2025. General cargo — handled outside of containers — registered an increase of 254%. Wheat unloading showed a growth of 50%, followed by fertilizers (18%) and containers (14%),” highlights the public company.
According to the press office, in the first four months of the year, imports showed a decrease of 5,8%. "However, this result indicates a recovery compared to February and March, when cargo movements from other countries registered even lower rates. The drop in imports is directly related to the conflict in the Middle East," it emphasizes.
“Despite this, the diversity of cargo handled by the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina ensured stability in the accumulated balance for the four-month period, which reached 22,7 million tons, a volume in line with that recorded in the same period of 2025. The movement of roll-on/roll-off cargo — such as vehicles, machinery and agricultural equipment — also contributed to maintaining operational balance. In April alone, more than 15,5 units were loaded or unloaded. Between January and April, the total movement amounted to 42.657 units,” concludes Portos do Paraná.
