A World Bank report indicated that it will take Brazil 260 years to reach the educational level of developed countries in reading and 75 years in mathematics. The calculation was made based on the performance of students in all editions of PISA, the international assessment applied by the Organization for Cooperation and Development. For the first time, the World Development Report, a yearbook that discusses issues for global development, is dedicated entirely to education.
This is the result of years of public education policies launching and burying programs without paying attention to results, without understanding what can work and what needs to be changed. While teachers' unions, half-baked politicians and opportunists on duty fight for causes that contribute little to the education of students, the country sinks into ignorance, deficiency and rudeness.
Bolsonaro's son
Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR) responded to the insult made by state deputy Missionário Arruda (PEN), from Paraná, by approving a bill in the Senate's CCJ that criminalizes insults based on gender. In the Legislative Assembly of Paraná, “Bolsonaro's son” attacked the PT member, calling her “lover” for no reason; the proposal changes the provision that establishes as an aggravating factor the use of elements related to race, color, ethnicity, religion, origin or condition of elderly or disabled person, adding the issue of gender among these aggravating factors.
Mercilessly
Federal judge Sérgio Moro ordered the execution of the sentences of businessman Leon Vargas, brother of former congressman André Vargas (ex-PT-PR), and publicist Ricardo Hoffman, after their conviction by the TRF-4. “Once the second instance has been exhausted after the judgment of the declaratory appeals against the decision of the infringers, the sentences must be executed as expressly provided for in the conviction decision. It is not up to this Court to discuss the order”, stated Moro in his sentence.
New investigations
The first phase of 2018 of Operation Lava Jato launched in Curitiba last week – which targeted the company Econorte, part of the Triunfo Group, employees of the Paraná DER and the Dnit – opens the front of investigations into corruption and money laundering in the highway sector, which will reach other concessionaires throughout the country.
